Pregnancy Care

Being pregnant can bring many changes to your body, and despite the process being beautiful for many, it sometimes can be physically very uncomfortable. It is common to experience:

  • Lateral hip pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain (PRPG)
  • Pelvic pressure or heaviness
  • Leaking

Physiotherapy can assist in managing these conditions and in making an exercise plan (where indicated) to help improve your labour, for pregnancy related pain and function, and for postnatal outcomes. Sometimes it requires working out if some external support would be helpful in the short term- something like a maternity belt or compressive pants.

Exercise during your pregnancy has a strong body of evidence to be helpful for both mum and her growing bub, however there may be barriers to this such as pain, prolapse or just not being sure where to start- physio can help you move with confidence.

For some women they want to get a pelvic floor assessment prior to birth – particularly if they feel their pelvic floor function could benefit from improved awareness and activation.
